Graduate Council Meeting, 02-10-05, 4:00 pm, MCB 607

• We will meet on the second Thursday of the month at 4:00 in MCB 655
• Partha attended the most recent GSA meeting. The university is creating a mission statement; the GSA provided input for graduate students.
• Parking for GTAs will be changed; GTAs will be allowed to park in the GTA parking spots for days when they have at least three hours of office hours, teach a lab, or teach a class for up to three days a week.
• Jamika attended the most recent GPC committee meeting.
• One issue is how to provide a certificate or award for GTAs that teach classes
• A separate issue is how to provide new GTAs and GTAs who teach with access to information on which servers to use, how to get passwords – perhaps have one unified website with all the necessary information – we will ask Shaun Lupoli, a new graduate student, if he will keep a list of the systems that he uses as he teaches his courses
• We have contacted the tech staff about the listing of graduate student homepages. We will get instructions posted on the Graduate Council homepage as soon as we get them from the tech staff.
• Lauren organized a social activity a few weeks ago; 5 people attended. We plan to hold other events in the future.
• We are discussing the potential of having a recruiting position (a GTA or GRA position) to travel to other universities and recruit students. This person may also take on some of the responsibilities as part of the job. We are working on writing a proposal for the department.
