Issues discussed

1.      Dues – Hussein will collect dues. He will email the gradstudents@cs.vt.edu list with information about when to pay dues. He will include a statement specifying that dues are optional, but necessary. Due collection will most likely take place during the back to school social. We will also collect graduate student dues from the NOVA campus.

2.      Grad lab printers – Divya has spoken with the tech staff and the printers are now capable of duplex printing. Divya is continuing discussions about having a pay printer with higher quality printing.

3.      Access to MCB 565 – Students are not allowed to leave the door open to this research area. If a student is caught intentionally leaving the door open, he or she will lose their research space. Students are also not allowed to hold meetings or office hours in this area. Sourabh will send an email to the graduate students outlining these policies.

4.      Travel Funding – The Graduate Council approved travel funding for Max Moldenhauer, Choudhry Zaki Malik, Qing Li, and Catherine Payne

5.      After last meeting, Sourabh spoke with Ginger Clayton about the graduate lab. Ginger will get rid of the typewriter that nobody is using and leave the copier for the grad students to use. When the typewriter is removed, she should have enough space for the second workstation that she has to put there for Dr. Edwards.

6.      After last meeting, Sourabh spoke with Ginger Clayton about the possibility of making research space for graduate students from Peter DePasquale’s office. He discovered that the space has already been allocated to Dr. Fox's visiting students,
so we cannot request that for Graduate Council use.

7.      A computer science graduate student social will be held on Friday October 10, 2003 at 5:00 in MCB 655. It will be an ethnic pot luck dinner, so please bring something of your choice. Kristin and Marc will announce the social via a departmental email.
