Grad Council Meeting: 8-13-03

Location and Time

Issues discussed

1. Treasurer’s post – We will send an email to the gradstudents@cs.vt.edu account informing them of the vacancy in the treasurer’s post and ask for candidates. We will hold elections around the first day of school.

2. Research space allocation policies for 565 MCB – Professors should send an email requesting research space on behalf of their students. The email should contain a brief summary of why research space is necessary.

3. Mentor program – The mentor program is now officially the job of the Secretary of the Interior. We will send an email to gradstudents@cs.vt.edu asking for grad students to be mentors.

4. CS student orientation – Marc Vass will speak at the orientation.

5. Back to school social – The social will be an ethnic dinner, and it will be held three weeks into the semester.

6. New student representative – We will hold elections for the new student representative soon after the back to school social.

7. Travel money – We authorized funding for Jochen Rode, Roy Tan, Jacob Somervell, and Jian Chen.
