The next meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on July 25, 2000. Dr. Ramakrishnan will be present to discuss the seminar series.
Objective:
This meeting was designed to discuss several pending issues. An agenda for the meeting has been included within this document.
McBryde 133 setup
· 4 GTA stations will be made available in 133 B. · 3 GTA stations will be available in 133 A. · Undergraduate lobby and study areas will remain the same. · 2 undergraduate advisors will occupy back two offices · Rear entrance to 133 will be unavailable. · Lockers will be included. · Card access will prevent undergraduate students from entering after GTA hours are complete.Lockers
· GTAs with grading assignments will be given priority for 133 lockers. · All lockers in 655 will be emptied, and students will fill out form to request lockers. · Priority may be given to students willing to share lockers. · A combined request form may be used for lockers, 565 space, and GTA station assignments. · The aforementioned form may be made available online in future. · Lockers will be awarded to those who do not have office space elsewhere
GTA Station Assignments
· Each GTA will sign up for office hours and a station with/without a computer using a GTA form. · Each GTAs name and office hours will be posted on the entrance to each GTA station. · A sign-up sheet listing the available hours for each station will also be posted. · GTAs requesting additional time, or holding non-traditional office hours will use sign-up sheet. · GTA stations will be made available to the graduate community at-large during available times. · GTAs will have priority to use stations in the event that all stations are full; a sign to this effect will be posted outside each station.
565 Space
· Students will have to reapply for space in summer. · Priority will be given to Ph.D. students who do not have office space allocated · elsewhere. · Masters thesis students will be given priority, followed by masters coursework- · only students. · Space assignments will be on a yearly basis for Ph.D. students; on a semester basis for masters students.
Seminar Series
· Dr. Ramakrishnan will start a weekly seminar series. · Nathan will be coordinating this series with Dr. Ramakrishnan. · Series will be scheduled every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m, starting August 30, 2000. · External and internal speakers will present topics. · September 12 Patterns Research, HCI
Mentoring Program
· Graduate Student Panel will take place after the reception. · Mentor meeting will be scheduled to inform mentors of their responsibilities. · Checklist of important things to accomplish will be provided to new graduate students.
Action Items
· Meet with Drs. Kafura and Schuetz to gain their approval of the Mentoring Program. Request registration be moved to Saturday. · Compose an email seeking volunteer mentors. · Get a list of new graduate students from Sharon Donahue · Meet with Dr. Shaffer regarding funding for the orientation reception. · Meet with Dr. Shaffer regarding updating the GPC website.
