Meetings:

The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in McBryde 655. Nathan Conklin will be available via teleconference.

Objective:

This meeting was designed to compile and discuss the results of the Graduate Student Survey, distributed on Friday, April 28, 2000.

The results have been compiled in the spreadsheet included below.

An informal brainstorming session was also held to further add to the list of suggestions made by graduate students. Some of the suggestions include:

Graduate Council Member Suggestions

Curriculum Improvements

· Provide counseling session for new graduate students before they select classes.

· Assign graduate counselor to each student

· Have formal/informal meetings with Grad Council during orientation

· Design ‘packet’ for new students, including apartment information, financial aid info, etc.

· Have financial aid person available in CS Office at beginning of each semester for individual consultation

· Compile a list of scholarships, grants, fellowships, and other aid targeted to CS students

· Arrange meetings with prospective students

· Have standard list of facilities to show each prospective student

Facility Improvements

· Organize ‘cleaning team’; group of volunteers to clean grad lab twice per month, including refrigerator and microwave. Pay clean team with software.

· Secretary of Interior will handle schedule for clean team.

· Schedule CS Grad Lab clean up in fall

· Purchase larger refrigerator/coffee maker for McBryde 659

· Purchase another printer/copier for McBryde 659

· Make more paper available in McBryde 659

· Have centralized research space

· Turn McBryde 659 into research space controlled by Graduate Council
